Bio
.... .. .. .. .. .. ..Music.com.. | ..Vessy.com.. | ........ .. Chicago-born Vessy Mink is an emotional, melodic, folk-punk singer/songwriter where the Cranberries meet Sheryl Crow for breakfast, then have tea-time with, Muse, the Cure and Depeche Mode, on to a power lunch with the Rolling Stones, the Eagles and the Grateful Dead, finishing off with a diversely yummy nine course dinner with everyone from, Dolly Parton to Janis Joplin. Her songs range from rock driven ballads to deeply rooted Bulgarian rhythms that put her in a class of her own. Vessy Mink's live solo shows have been described as .."…truly riveting; raucous and delicate, improvisatory and fine-tuned.".... Vessy began her recording career in Chicago, as a hired electronica singer, where she recorded on tracks with legendary musicians such world renowned drummer Kenny Aronoff. After arriving in Los Angeles in 1998 Vessy Mink began writing and recording demos with Matt Sorum of The Cult, Guns & Roses and Velvet Revolver fame and then formed her first Los Angeles band, The Lovesick Lunatics, with Jason Art, Josh Rifkin and Craig Sharp. In 2000, together with the Love Sick Lunatics, she recorded Black Car, an independently self released album, that ultimately led to signing a demo deal with Virgin Records in 2001. .. Black car showcased the strength of Vessy's Pop-Rock song writing, with such songs as Hollywood Hang Me, Love and Tell Me Why? Hollywood Hang Me went on to air for 3 straight months on The hit TV Series, The Gilmore Girls, and was licensed to Bud Light for a national TV commercial. As of late, the title track "Black Car," has been licensed by Cutting Edge Group LLC, for inclusion in the indie film Triple Dog, a Los Angeles based teenage thriller, directed by Pascal Franchot. http://www.tripledogfilm.com .. After playing for audiences in Los Angeles venues such as The Mint, The Temple Bar, The House of Blues, The Joint, The Gig, and many others, unfortunately, The Lovesick Lunatics parted ways in 2002. .. Vessy can also be seen from time to time performing different vocal styles from Balkan to Blues to Tin Pan Alley tunes as part of the crinoline-clad, show stopping trio, The Smiling Minks with Moira Smiley and L.A's "diva deluxe" Suzy Williams. .. Vessy Mink has continued to perform in L.A. and has hosted numerous acoustic nights at places such as the Viper Room, The Cows End, The Derby and The Brickhouse Kitchen in Venice, Ca. In January 2008, Vessy moved back to Chicago, and is currently hard at work developing a new studio album of passionate songs with her talented partner, Kevlarhill who just happens to be a perfect musical match, programming tasty beats and luscious synth sounds as well as bringing driving acoustic drums and provocative underlying compositions to Vessy's natural acoustic simplicity. http://www.myspace.com/kevlarhill When the duo are not performing their high energy live show or working on their studio album, they enjoy their newest super fun side project called, the Bulgarian Girls,(a progressive dance club alternative genre.) http://www.myspace.com/thebulgariangirls .. -

Vessy began her recording career in Chicago, as a hired electronica singer, where she recorded on tracks with legendary musicians such world renowned drummer Kenny Aronoff. This occurred in 1996 after answering a want ad placed by SIREN for a "fire starter" front woman in the Chicago Reader. After arriving in Los Angeles in 1998, and meeting her first manager, Diane LaBuda on the Venice Boardwalk where she was busking,
Vessy Mink began writing and recording demos with Matt Sorum of The Cult, Guns & Roses and Velvet Revolver fame(thank you D!) and then formed her first Los Angeles band, The Lovesick Lunatics, with Jason Art, Josh Rifkin and Craig Sharp. In 2000, together with the Lovesick Lunatics , Jimmy Godsey & Dave Urich, she recorded Black Car, an independently self released album (thank you to Jon & Missy Butcher!), that ultimately led to signing a demo deal with Virgin Records in 2001 (thanks to Chris Penn & David Baerwald for introducing me to Tony Berg)
Black car showcased the strength of Vessy's Pop-Rock song writing, with such songs as Hollywood Hang Me, Love and Tell Me Why? Hollywood Hang Me went on to air for 3 straight months on The hit TV Series (thank you Steve Silverman!), The Gilmore Girls, and was then licensed to Bud Light for a national TV commercial. Vessy's original songs are also featured in a number of passionate documentaries including Hearts of Hope, as well as the feature film, Triple Dog
After playing for audiences in Los Angeles venues such as The Mint, The Temple Bar, The House of Blues, The Joint, The Gig, and many others, The Lovesick Lunatics parted ways in 2002.
Vessy Mink continued to perform in L.A. and successfully hosted numerous acoustic nights at places such as the Viper Room, The Cows End, The Derby and The Brickhouse Kitchen in Venice, Ca. These shows were usually quite improvisational and exciting, as one never knew who would be joining her on stage!
Nearing the end of 2004, Vessy landed a 2 month residency in a very wonderful little ski town in Avoriaz, France (thanks to Brett Woods Guillaume Bouchez!) She formed a stellar band (thanks to Craigs List:), with the likes of Gidon Shikler and Robert Lorch. The 3 piece performed nightly at a local hot spot called Le Cabane. From there she travelled to Switzerland, Bulgaria and London, where she recorded 17 original tracks with yet another set of amazing artists, thanks to Organic Music's, Ralph Cavallaro.
From 1998 to the end of 2007, Vessy had the great honor of volunteering for an amazing foundation called The Art of Elysium at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. It was during these special 3 hour sessions at the hospital that Vessy truly realized one of the most important things she wanted to accomplish with her music. Weaving spontaneous songs, movement and poetry into the lives and hearts of the children who resided there gave her a purpose never before realized and hopefully made them feel a little better Having learned the spirit of song from a few major family members: her Bulgarian grandmother, Veselina Minkovska (whom she is named after) who sang her lullabies from a world away, Vessy’s father, Michael, who taught her how to sing these songs and sang them with her, and her original songwriting sister, Antje, who was the founding member of Just Blame Eve, Vessy’s first band.(At 16 years old, Vessy sang background vocals and percussion)
In January 2008, Vessy Mink moved back to Chicago with her fiance,(who also happens to be a gifted multi-instrumentalist & composer), and began the journey of a lifetime. Becoming parents have given these Gemini's the greatest of joys and a purpose unequivocal! Currently, Vessy teaches for the well loved early-childhood music program, Wiggleworms, at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
