The Grand Old Dukes are a majesterial indie-ska sextet crowned in Withington, Manchester. Their sound is a gunpowder mix of jagged indie guitar, blistering military brass, stark sniping vocals, honey-rich harmonies, and strict corporal rhythms. They stomp the stage in bovver boots and regimental jackets. Live performances are drenched in New Orleans-style sweat, OI! energy, fusilier band grandeur and indie swagger. ["AN EXCITING DISCOVERY!" Glasswerk] Having supported ska and mod revival legends such as The Specials, The Beat and The Lambrettas, The Grand Old Dukes reference great British eras of music, but are certainly not one-trick, pigeon-holed, ponies! This is why they have fitted seamlessly on bills with promising indie bands such as Twisted Wheel, iliketrains and Bombay Bicycle Club.
