James Gabriel Choate was born and raised in Graham, Texas. His love for music was sparked at young age by his paternal grandmother who played piano in church and who took Gabe to choir practice. A second influence was his maternal grandfather (Pop) who played harmonica and sang folk and country songs. Gabe started playing guitar at age 15 and performed in garage bands for a number of years. His first working band was a metal band in Austin, TX (no such animal). Gabe played clubs in various bands for several years and had some regional success with his alt-country band (Salt Creek). Salt Creek received radio airplay on 2 singles written by Gabe. The band opened for acts such as Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, Cooder Graw and Texas Jack. As Salt Creek’s status grew his personal life spiraled out of control, with a fight against alcoholism /drug addiction, then a failed marriage. Through the help of Christ…Gabe was able to make the needed changes to turn his life in a positive and new direction. After some time off from the music scene and time spent getting clean and sober; he got back into music with a band called (3 blind mice) a funk rock band. That didn’t satisfy his need to both do original music and to minister to others. Gabe then formed the (Ghost and Jimi Gabriel) along with Randall and Stacy. The guys have been busy writing, recording new music with positive messages. The band shares their music by playing at churches, coffee houses, festivals, community events, and private functions. They will be releasing their first full length CD of Christian songs sometime in the fall of 2009. Besides the band Gabe serves as the Music Director of Christian Hope Church in Newcastle, TX. Gabe plays Fender and Ibanez guitars, Fender and Marshall amps, Fulltone and MXR effects. Gabe also recently built his first guitar and has plans to build amps.
Randall Smith was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He graduated from John H Reagan High School in 1975. Randall attended Southwestern University where he played baseball and received a bachelor’s degree. From an early age music just came naturally to Randall. His musical roots began with Motown and Gospel music. He would sing in the church and in his elementary school choirs. He took up the drums at the age of 15 at the request of one of his friends who played guitar. Trapeze and ZZ top were bands that made a lasting impression on Randall. He often visited Armadillo World Headquarters, in Austin, and fell in love with the band idea and the live music scene. Freddie King, Van Wilkes, Mother of Pearl, Too Smooth and the Electro-magnets (Eric Johnson) were local acts that he loved to groove with. The first band he play in was JJ Mac, a rock ensemble that played the college circuit around Austin. Jerry "Bonz" Holmes played in the band until he became Eric Johnson's guitar technician. The group disbanded and Randall concentrated on baseball and his degree. He left Georgetown, Texas, after graduation, and moved to the Lubbock area. He took a job as a teacher/coach where he tuned his drum style in the school's band hall. After moving to Vernon, Texas in 1982, he played mostly country acts with The Jackie Brown Band and then Dirt Road. He played 3 years with Night Shift (a female vocal generated house act). In August of 1999, Randall moved to Graham, Texas. In 2001, he entered a treatment center for drug addiction. "Life really began for me after I got clean." In 2002, he went on tour with The Split Rail Band of Houston, Texas. He got a call from Gabe Choate to audition for a local band, 3 Blind Mice. He auditioned for the band and got the gig. He stayed with them until June of 2008. 3 Blind Mice disbanded and Randall hooked up with Gabe to begin a new vision and formed the band The Ghost and Jimi Gabriel. Randall plays DW drums, Vic Firth sticks, Evans heads and Iron Cobra pedals.
Stacy Sconce was born and raised in Graham, Texas. He plays bass.
