About The Devil Rides Out

Western Australia's THE DEVIL RIDES OUT established themselves as “Perth’s premier exponents of balls’n’all rock’n’roll grit’n’grime” (Drum) with their trinity of EPs; Volume I, II and III. On the back of the Volumes, the band supported Nick (QOTSA/Kyuss) Oliveri’s MONDO GENERATOR (USA), WINNEBAGO DEAL (UK), MONSTER MAGNET (USA), SHIHAD (NZ), CLUTCH (USA) and in May 2009 won the WAMi (West Australian Music Industry) Award for ‘Best Hard Rock Artist’.

The Devil re-entered the studio in December 2009 to lay down their debut album. Impedance Records - the Australian based home to Nick Oliveri, Mondo Generator and The Sword amongst others - liked what they heard emanating from the studio and promptly signed them. The resulting album The Heart & The Crown charts the sound of a band coming of age, displaying both a musical breadth and lyrical depth previously only hinted at on the Volume EPs, whilst still retaining the bands trademark venom, grit and pitch black sense of humour.

Renown in Australia for their blistering live sets, The Devil is now set to take its high-octane show on the road and wake the rest of the world up to this ferocious rock monster from west of the desert down under...

'THE HEART & THE CROWN' ALBUM (2010):

"Rough as guts rock'n'roll at its filthiest. 4/5" - REVERB MAGAZINE

"Evokes visions of Clutch and the Beasts of Bourbon streaking across the Nullarbor in a stolen oil tanker chased by lightning. Don't be surprised if you wake up next day with a hangover. 4/5" - BLUNT MAGAZINE

"It’s clear that the four-piece act have well and truly earned their immense reputation as one of the west’s best newcomers in recent years. The Devil Rides Out combines a mix of dirty rock ‘n’ roll, stoner rock and heavy blues, with comparisons to Queens of the Stone Age, Beasts Of Bourbon, Clutch and Kyuss evident throughout this 13-song offering... with the driving guitars and the low slung bass evoking a heavy stoner vibe, while the vocals cleverly steer the song towards a more dirty/primitive rock direction, which gives the band a sound that’s not only their own, but free of the clichés that most fall into when attempting to fuse the two genres... Hard Love is quite possibly the best thing Tex Perkins never got around to recording himself." - BEAT MAGAZINE

"13 tracks of gritty, bluesy rock'n'roll, jam-packed with grinding riffs and spectacular percussion... It's got that filthy, sexy Deep South truck-stop feel in spades. Just listening to it, you can almost smell the whiskey and sex. Grab it, put it on and don't forget to turn it up to 11 - to listen to The Heart & The Crown any other way is doing it wrong." - DRUM MEDIA

"Further to all the other adjectives that have been thrown at them, such as ‘bad-ass’ and ‘balls’n’all’, ‘relentless’ is another one that defines this album to a tee... this author thoroughly recommends readers hire a convertible, point the thing at the desert, flick their lit cigarette at the petrol-soaked bridge behind them, put the pedal to the metal, and crank this album full bore." - XPRESS MAGAZINE

"This music has me in it’s thrall – intense and uncompromising, individual and revelatory – The Devil has grown up and is taking on the world on it’s own terms... Monstrous! 4.5/5" - THE ROCK PIT

"The Devil has now unleashed a full-length that should elevate them to the very pinnacle of Australia's rock pile... Anyone looking for the monstrous fuzz of Cathedral or Kyuss crossed with the caustic venom of Crowbar and Eyehategod should find exactly what they're after with The Heart & the Crown. It's a riff-monster just waiting to eat your soul." - PYROMUSIC.NET

"From the opening riff of the first track, Watch It Burn, you know The Devil Rides Out aren’t messing around. After releasing three banging EPs — Volume I, II and III— the band have finally released their debut album, and it’s the sort of album that restores your faith in hard rock... there’s no posing, just full-steam fuzzed out stoner riffs that will put a serious hurting on your internal organs. 8/10" - SOUTH WESTERN TIMES

"Just plain nasty. With a garage-like urgency, metal violence and a bowel-trembling approach to production and intensity, this says man up or fuck off. 4/5." - MUSIC AUSTRALIA GUIDE

"Full-steam ahead rock power... Whilst this album’s cover art doesn’t parade a Kenworth or a Mack, it did make me wanna put a gun rack in my Hyundai... The album flows through with power, blues and swagger. Hard Love sounds like a lost ZZ Top gem, while Right Hand Man reminds me of the Desert Sessions Volume 2. This is good. Why? Cos I like that stuff. Simple, really." - LONG GONE LOSER

..

'VOLUME III' EP (2008):

"Very much like a cross between Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal... they generate heavy stoner rock with liberal lashings of garage blues, delivered with a ferocious grit."- INPRESS MAGAZINE

"The Devil Rides Out sure knows how to rock... they dole out enormously catchy doses of rollicking groove-laden sludge that wouldn't be out of place on an album by Corrosion of Conformity" - PYROMUSIC.NET

"The opening salvo of Slow Gun carries a hook bigger than a high-rise demolition team... If you're only as good as your last game, Volume III shows The Devil Rides Out could make it into the big league."- i94 BARMAN

"Influences range from country to thrash and almost everything in between... lots of bands fling around disparate influences like this, but very few manage to tie them together as convincingly as The Devil Rides Out do.""- STONERDOOM.NZ

"Finally putting their trilogy of EPs to rest, The Devil Rides Out have seen the project out with a bang... Volume IIIsees the boys more able to call their influences ‘peers’ than ever before." - XPRESS

..

'VOLUME II' EP (2007):

"So good! I love this truck drivin' Mans Ruin-esque stoner rock jive. Kozik would love these cats. File next to Kyuss, Rollerball, and Alabama Thunderpussy. Good shit!" - LONG GONE LOSER

"The Devil Rides Out have outdone themselves with Volume II. Put to it in the simplest way possible… this EP rocks HARD from the first note to the last." - PERTHBANDS.COM

"Brilliant and imaginative, and an eye opener to the current rock world... Rock was at its prime back in the 1970s, and this just goes to show that there is still more groove to be milked from the grandfather years." - THE METAL FORGE

"Back with a second EP just four months after their debut release, Perth's premier exponents of balls'n'all, rock'n'roll grit and grime mean business."- DRUM MEDIA SINGLE OF THE WEEK

..

'VOLUME I' EP (2007):

"Cock struttin' high flyin' and gear changin' with lotsa riffs... dishes up 6 tracks detailing long nights of lovin' and truck-stops... Sounding Southern but coming from Western (Australia that is), I'd be highly disappointed if none of these guys drive a truck." - LONG GONE LOSER

"A deliciously accurate introduction to a band that have made a lot of waves in a short timeframe. Part stoner rock riff-o-rama, part metal virtuosity, part country music folk lore; Volume I is as musically on-the-money as it is lyrically ... The best 'riff' band in Perth hands-down, The Devil Rides Out are a meaty meal." XPRESS

"The first of three EPs released by this local group of heavy hitters certainly hits the mark. Joey K's awesome howl fits perfectly with Andrew Ewing's fuzzed-out riffs." - DRUM MEDIA SINGLE OF THE WEEK
