For Immediate Release: July 6, 2009 Boston’s independent, hard-rock/punk band ONEBIGMESS regrets to announce that after almost 10 years in the Boston Music Scene, the band will be calling it quits. The news comes as a shock to most people who are close to the band, who felt that the band was about to move on to even bigger and better things. The announcement came following a Band Meeting on June 4th where singer/guitarist ROB KELLEY announced that he had decided to leave the band to focus on his life. “I feel like now is the time to move on to other things that I have been putting off because of my commitment to the band. I don’t think I can put 100% of my effort into ONEBIGMESS anymore, and think that now is the time to step down. We had a great run, but I just can’t do it anymore.” ONEBIGMESS has been kicking around the Boston music scene since late 1999, and while Kelley is the only remaining “Original” member, CHRIS DEAO follows in the veteran department, missing only the first 12 shows by the band. “I can’t believe that the band is breaking up. I am truly saddened by Rob’s decision to leave, as I feel that we have so much more to accomplish with ONEBIGMESS.” The band has accomplished a lot in their time on the Boston Music Scene, and got to share the stage with some amazing local and national rock acts. Career highlights include competing in the BEANTOWN MELTDOWN in 2002 and 2003, making it to the semi-finals and finals respectively, opening for National acts such as LOST CITY ANGELS, THE MISFITS, and DAYS OF THE NEW. The band performed at the HEMPSTOCK festival in Starks, ME for 4-years straight, was selected as a FIRST ACT EMERGING ARTIST in 2007, and was also selected to perform on the KEVIN SAYS STAGE for the Mansfield, MA stop of the 2007 WARPED TOUR. The band also travelled outside of New England, performing 2-nights at the 2007 Mid-Point Music Festival in Cincinnati, OH. During their time on the Boston Music Scene ONEBIGMESS released a 3-song demo, two EP’s (Almost Gone, and The Mess’d Up EP), two full-length albums (You Figure It Out, and Viva la Mess!), and four official “Bootleg CD’s”. They were about to begin work on the follow up to 2008’s Viva la Mess! when the announcement came. “We did talk about possibly recording these last few songs and releasing them for the fans, but for now that is up in the air. I need the time off first, need to separate myself from it before I can even begin processing that,” says KELLEY. The band is currently working on a date for their final show, which will be a send off with their favorite local bands. Tentatively scheduled for September, details will be posted once everything is finalized. “It’s only fair to do this (for our fans), to have one last hurrah with our favorite local bands, at a great venue,” says CHRIS DEVINE, lead guitarist for the band. Members of the band will probably still be out on the Boston Music Scene, checking out their favorite bands and hanging out. SEDAWG (the bands’ bassist) and ROB KELLEY own their own Recording Studios (Cheap Mix Studios and Rocket Dog Records) where they plan to get back into recording some of the up and coming bands on the scene now. “We really can’t thank our fans, and everyone who supported the band over the last 10 years, enough. We have met some really amazing people, and are completely appreciative of the attention given to our band, and are grateful for all of the opportunities given to us over the years.
