  • Bio

........ .. ..Mustad Noodid.., which in its native Estonian translates as Black Keys, or Dirty Keys, Black Notes, or Off-keys is a inter-continental outfit made up of self-proclaimed composer-remixer-producer ..Julius 'Tallinn73' Talvik.. and the man that can actually read and write music for real - ..Sten 'Gun' Saluveer... .. The name says it all, really. Two nordic boys with soul and serious first-hand "exposure" to jazz, soul, funk, disco, dub, house, broken beat, techno, afrobeat, fusion, traditional Asian, and indie rock. Mustad Noodid is inter-continental because Julius lives in DC and Sten in Tallinn. And all tunes are arranged and assembled across the internet - a sort of a Trans-Atlantic Express. .. While Julius can rightfully be credited as one of the founders and early fixtures of the techno/house/dnb scene in Estonia in the beginning of the 1990s, Sten has likewise been instrumental in keeping the vibe alive through a myriad of creative projects spanning the musical spectrum, as a sound engineer, composer, remixer, dj, and a producer for the past decade or so. One of his internationally acclaimed projects on ..Umblu.., with the grand old man of Estonian scene, ..Raul “Ajukaja” Saaremets.. took off with a great spin, as their deep house experiment “Angel” with legendary NJ vocalist Cassioware became a club anthem. Topping lists at various record stores and mags such as Dancetrax and DJ Hype Chart, "Angel" was in heavy rotation by David Morales, Hector “Hec” Romero, and Pete Tong to name a few and was highly praised by DJs, critics and the audience alike. .. Upon leaving Tallinn to attend university in Washington, DC in 1991, Julius joined the local underground scene and started DJing semi-regularly in 1993 which then blossomed into a regular multi-residency occupation only a few of years later - something that Julius maintained until 2005. While first recording for Umblu as Tallinn'73 around 2000 - a debut album he co-composed/produced with another acclaimed Estonian artist Kalm was engineered by Sten! To be sure, this was not the first time that the two had rubbed sides on the Estonian circuit. Years later, Mustad Noodid, at least as a concept, was born in 2006 and continues to evolve by mixing the diverse influences of both musical partners. .. Mustad Noodid debut album release is tentatively planned for late 2009, with the first EP ..Samba.. out by Christmas 2008, and the second EP Birdmaker is slated to follow in February 2009 on Estonia's own Umblu (www.umblu.com).
