Music
At the moment, I am absorbed by Powderfinger, The Church, Jet, Pearl Jam, Grinspoon & Them Crooked Vultures and the release of the entire 'Buffalo' CD collection by Aztec Music in Melbourne.
Just type this link http://www.vision.net.au/~eagle/ into your search engine to find the official Buffalo website. They were the original heavy rock band in Australia and their influence apparently even extends to Metallica who used a riff on a song on a recent album that is identical to a Buffalo song from 30 years ago! Perhaps just a one-in-a-trillion coincidence!Movies
Television
Bit of a joke all round here in Australia. Loads of total rubbish like 'Australian Idol' that make me puke! A plethora of 'lifestyle' shows that all regenerate the same crap and seem to copy each other in a race to make people head for their video stores.
Local product is hampered by many 'tragic' directors/writers/producers and we have to suffer a plethora of crap talent quest shows, dancing shows, fucking crap like Australian Idol, survival shows and horrible, endless Danoz Direct & Guthy Renker ads!
Cable TV is another boring, extremely over-priced mess, repeating everything that we saw at least 2 years ago!
Thank 'someone' for the ABC which manages to give us quality programs like 'The Collectors', 'New Inventors', 'Carnivale' and 'Rage' to help ease the pain and SBS who at least have some diverse interests like 'Top Gear', 'RocKquiz' and some late-night titillation to bring relief from a long list of generally insufferable US garbage. And we do have generally excellent sports coverage on the free-to-air tv channels!Books
Mixing With The Mind (Michael Stavros); Petrol, Bait, Ammo & Ice (H. G. Nelson, historical novels (e.g. Kokoda) and whatever I pick up in general. Recommend the INXS autobiography. It actually is well-written. So is the AC/DC tome by Murray Engelheart.Heroes
The great Peter Wells (Rose Tattoo); Keith Richards & The Stones; Louise Savage; Sir George Martin; John Lennon; Jack Gibson- R.I.P. Supercoach!; all people with disabilities who overcome their restrictions & set examples for all of us; all people who heal the sick such as doctors and nurses; Professor Fred Hollows; paramedics; any musician who can play in tune!
